Measurements:

  • probe orientation derived from magnetometer and accelerometer/gravimeter data
  • borehole diameter, meassured with four sensors/arms
  • image of the borehole wall's electric resistivity as recorded by four sensor pads, i.e. four (oriented) traces with "white space" in-between (area not covered by pads) that increases with borehole diameter

Purpose: borehole geometry & calliper; dip & dip direction of foliation, layering, fractures; magnetic field amplitude

Characteristics: spacial orientation: 3-axis fluxgate magnetometers, 3-axis accelerometers, four powered caliper arms with electrode pads; resistivity contrast: focused micro currents are induced into the borehole wall from one electrode per pad on each caliper arm and voltage and current are measured with respect to a reference electrode near the tool head; borehole deviation & azimuth, arm-1 azimuth, relative bearing: DEVI, HAZI, P1AZI, RB [deg], borehole caliper: C1 & C2 [mm], magnetic field amplitude: Mx,y,z [nT], 4 oriented traces of electric micro resistivity: Res1,2,3,4 [none], GR [gAPI]; Vertical resolution: micro res: 0.005, orientation: 4, mag field: 0.1; Depth of penetration: micro res: 0.02, orientation: none, mag field: 0.2
